Influencers vs celebrities what are their roles?

In recent years there has been a huge influx of influencers wethers thats from tiktok, instagram and youtube but how are they differnt from old school celbrities like actors and singers. As the lines blurs between them it feels like it become harder and harder to keep up and define it all.

Influencers mostly become popular due to their own personalities and are creation of a community with their followers. A celebrity become famous because of their talent, as a singers or in acting and are not usually apart of their fan base.

With fans who follow influencers they kind of know what they are getting into the person that they follow is a human being and there is usually a ‘just like us mentality’. A celebrities fans will see them as larger than life, they are an idol to be followed, a god among humans.

Now days as more celebrities interact with their fans ‘cancel culture seems to be attacking more and more up and coming celebrities, why?

Easy, celebrities do not have the same pressure to consistently know what is trending among the average people or what their problems are unlike influencers. Celebrities are not popular because of their personalities but their talents so when they say something that is not with the genral people or tonedelf of trends/problems it is more than likely to break their careers as this illusion breaks. People like rachel zegler who is such a human celebrity got cancled because shes so human and does not live up to the expectation. All people have personal opinions that would get them canceled so when we see people who should be ‘role models’ or ‘greater’ have these it breaks this illusion that the people created.

Well why do influencers get cancled then?

influences are popular because of their ‘persona’ they show online whether its them being ‘smart’, ‘funny’ or ‘sweet’. For a influencer to succeed they need to have some open endness for people to be able to put their own personalities/issues/fantasies on to; if you spend enough time in a ‘fandom’ of influencers then you will see this happen more often then not. So on this basis when a influencer does something out of this ficticious charactor that the fans create they feel hurt and betrayed by their own fantasy which they put on to the influencer.

But there are so many of both that commit terrible crimes that isnt for these reasons your not discussing that?!

yes there are but rarely are they cancled because of that. Emma roberts was arrested fo domestic violence and forced boyfriend evan peters to comfort her after she was released she was still very well like after this broke the news cycle but only got cancled after her nepotism comments. Why is domestic violence okay for emma roberts but bad for wilbur soot easy emma roberts career was not based on her being a good person it was based on her ablity to act. Wilbur soots career was based on him being this awkward, good looking guy who just wanted a girlfriend. Soots person was him getting a girlfriend and romance so when that illusion shatter his fan were mad.

People getting cancled will always be because of a shattered illusion no matter what they do or what they commit.
