The resurgence of gravity falls and theories

Gravity falls; a children’s comedy/ mystery-adventure show about twins Mable and Dipper who are forced to spend their summer at their scam artist great-uncles house/tourist trap. Dipper finds a journal which seeming starts to reveal the secrets of gravity falls (where their gruncle lives) and its mysteries, the twins make friends defeat monsters and reveal a secret plot their gruncle has hidden in the basement.

The current trend of gravity falls started with a countdown. The count down ended and people eagerly re-loaded their screens to see Soos (one of the twins friends/ gruncles employee) fixing the website unti it was finally fixed causing eruptions online of ‘thank you Soos’ or ‘Soos finally fixed the website,’. The new screen currently (15th of august 2024) shows a computer in which one can insert code words found in the most recent gravity falls book (the book of bill). These codes may show videos such as matpat confirming that his been working with the creator or written tales/backstories of characters.

People have been re-watching the show looking for anymore codes to input into the computer, looking for answers to their theories;Why did bill cipher (the main antagonist) get drunk and harass employees? Will there ever be more gravity falls content? Why has matpat been so bad at retirement?

The BILL CIPER- STANFORD PINES ROMANCE theory

Honestly this has been the most interesting theory that I have seen online. A triangular chaos god hell bend on creating weirdness and kidnapping, manipulating and threatening Stanford Pines. Stanford Pines a 12x PhD achiever dedicated to solving the paranormal mysteries of the world. A match made in heaven?

Well not really because in the book it seems like they had a bad ‘break up’, with Bill harassing employees ‘drunk’ (can he even get drunk?) and being forced to go to therapy.

I recently watched the show for the first time and looked at it following these theories from the start, Bill Ciper seems to have an obsession with Stanford, whereas Stanford seems embarrassed of him. Bill also seems much too giddy to go into Stanfords mind when he gets summoned for the first time in 30 years, almost forgetting to strike a deal.

I think this is a theory definitely has some validity and a hell of a lot of potential, but this could also be apart of the comedic value of villains and hero’s having some level of romantic tension such as joker and Batman in the lego Batman film. Although the show is owned by Disney so it may just be not trying to show LGBT+ characters as part of their guidelines.

The negative falls theory/ Season 3

There has been a theory online about a season three of gravity falls called negative falls which is supposed to be about alternate realities.

Unfortunately I do not think this is the case, but I do think that something is on the horizon especially with Matpats involvement in this whole thing.

Gravity falls is a unique situation in which it was NOT cancelled by Disney the creator didn’t want to make any more, feeling as if he had ended the story in a satisfactory way, which, i agree. The kids faced their fears of growing up figured out the mysteries of gravity falls, I can’t see any way for the story to continue and feel it’ll be a bit strange if some other being came (out of nowhere) and wanted to destroy the Pines family; especially since all the history the family had with Bill. The only way I could see it continuing is if there were some other being that Ford made enemies of in the alternate dimension, but even then it won’t be the same. No matter what happens, a season 3 will never feel as good as those first two seasons and it will come under major scrutiny.

A spin off

There’s have been rumours of a spin off or season three for years although rumors is a bit of a strong word maybe wishes. There are some people hoping that a spin off will be happening, unfortunately I do not think that will be the case. Although the best way for gravity falls to come back is as a spinoff. As I do not think it will be held to the same standards as a season three. The most interesting spin off in my personal belief is Stanfords adventure in the other dimension; what did he do for 30 years?

The most likely way for gravity falls to come back on screen is as a spin off, but I still don’t believe it will make it back to the silver screen and that the mystery solving may have come to its end.

Matpat! what are you doing here?

Matpat was a YouTube video game theorist most popular for his theories of five nights at Freddie’s and even made a cameo in the film. He retired this year but has been doing everything less than sitting on a rocking chair. He has been creating a musical, doing cameos, briefly came back to his game theory show, and now has been involved in the gravity falls. If you type Matpat into the computer screen he start happy then delves into a existential filled crisis before ending it on ‘I can’t help you anymore’. Was matpat possessed by bill ciper? Well that just a theory, a matpat theory.

With all jokes and theories aside gravity falls is one of the most amazing things I’ve watched recently. These kids (and gruncles) confronting fears and challenges that I am still facing like, growing up and fearing that my siblings and I won’t be close anymore. It’s a interesting story and I think it’s something that all kids should watch or at least the second season should be watched by all who feel those feelings, whether you’re 6, 12, 15, 22 or 75 I think it has something that everyone can relate to.
